Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Common Questions about Tours, Logistics, and Booking

1. How far in advance should I book my tour or trek to Machu Picchu?

For the Inca Trail and other popular treks, we recommend booking 4 to 6 months in advance, especially if traveling during High Season (May to September), due to limited spaces. For day tours and the Sacred Valley, 30 days is usually sufficient.

2. How do you guarantee safety during adventure treks?

Our treks are guided by certified professionals who carry communication equipment, complete first aid kits, and oxygen tanks. Additionally, we maintain strict safety control and evaluate weather conditions before and during the route.

3. What documents do I need to confirm a reservation?

We need a clear and valid copy of your Passport (or ID/DNI for Peruvians) and your date of birth. It is fundamental that this data be exact for the issuance of official tickets and entry permits, which are named and non-transferable.

4. Can I get a discount if I am a student?

Yes, university students can apply for a discount on the Machu Picchu entrance ticket. To do so, they must present a valid university card that meets Peruvian government requirements (plastic card, legible data, expiration date not exceeded).

5. What does the price of a tour with Authentic Puriq Tours include?

Generally, the price includes ground and/or train transportation, entrance tickets to archaeological sites, an official bilingual guide, and meals specified in the itinerary. Exact costs are detailed in your quote.

6. What is not included in the tour price?

Typically, the price does not include travel insurance (highly recommended), voluntary tips for the trekking team, the last day’s dinner, or any personal expenses not specified in the tour description.

7. What payment methods does Authentic Puriq Tours accept?

We accept credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) through secure gateways and bank transfers. Please note that card payments are subject to a previously informed administrative commission.

8. What happens if I need to cancel my tour?

Cancellations must be notified in writing. The penalty or amount to be retained depends on how far in advance the cancellation is made. We recommend thoroughly reviewing our Booking, Change, and Refund Policy before making payment.

9. Are Machu Picchu tickets refundable or transferable?

No. By regulation of the Ministry of Culture of Peru, Machu Picchu tickets are strictly named, not transferable to other people, and generally non-refundable, which impacts the amount of any refund for cancellation.

10. Do you accept reservations for children? Is there a discount?

Yes, we accept reservations for minors. Children under 3 years old have free entry to Machu Picchu, and those under 18 years old apply for a reduced rate by presenting their passport. Consult our Code of Conduct for travel with minors.

Questions about Travel and Health in Cusco

11. What is the best time to travel to Cusco and Machu Picchu?

The Dry Season (April to October) offers sunny days and is ideal for hiking, although it is the busiest season. The Wet Season (November to March) has greener landscapes but presents sporadic rains.

12. What is Altitude Sickness (Soroche) and how can I prevent it?

Altitude Sickness is a body reaction to the lack of oxygen at high altitudes (Cusco is at over 3,399 m.a.s.l.). To prevent it, we recommend acclimatizing for at least 48 hours, staying hydrated, and avoiding heavy meals on the first day.

13. Do I need travel insurance to visit Cusco and do treks?

Although not mandatory, Authentic Puriq Tours strongly recommends purchasing travel insurance that covers medical expenses, accidents, emergency evacuation, and tour cancellation.

14. What currency should I use in Cusco?

The official currency is the Peruvian Sol (PEN), but US Dollars (USD) are accepted in most hotels and large stores. We advise you to have Soles for markets, tips, and small expenses.

15. Do you offer meal options for special diets (vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free)?

Yes, with prior notification on your booking form, we can accommodate most dietary needs on our tours and treks, including vegetarian, vegan, and food allergy options.
