Day 1: The Beginning of the Challenge and Humantay Lake
We will pick you up early from your hotel in Cusco. We will travel by bus to Mollepata and then to Soraypampa. After breakfast, we begin the uphill hike to Humantay Lake. Enjoy the stunning turquoise beauty of this glacial lagoon. We return to Soraypampa for lunch and set up camp. Tonight, you will rest under the Andean stars.
Day 2: Crossing the Salkantay Pass
The most demanding day begins very early. We hike along rocky trails toward the Salkantay Pass. We reach the highest altitude of the trek at 4,650 m.a.s.l. The views of the Salkantay Glacier are unmatched. We then begin a gradual descent toward the Chaullay campsite. Vegetation changes as we enter the cloud forest zone. Rest and recover after a long trekking day.
Day 3: High Jungle and Aguas Calientes
We continue descending into the high jungle. You will experience a dramatic change in climate and landscape. We walk through green valleys and coffee plantations. We arrive at La Playa or Santa Teresa for lunch. In the afternoon, we walk along the train tracks toward Aguas Calientes. Dinner in town and rest for the big day ahead.
Day 4: Machu Picchu and Return
Early in the morning, we go up to Machu Picchu by bus or on foot. Your guide will lead you through the shared guided tour of the citadel. You will explore the most important and iconic sites. You will also have time to enjoy the place on your own. Afterwards, you return to Aguas Calientes to take the train back. The bus will be waiting at the station to take you back to Cusco.

Is this route better than the Inca Trail?
